Carpeting is a major investment in strata common areas, and regular cleanings are necessary to keep it looking new. Just as the clothes we wear need regular washing to keep them fresh and hygienic, so carpets require periodic professional carpet cleaning. On the Northern Beaches accumulated sand, soil and grit are major causes of reduced carpet life, if left unchecked. Carpet cleaning costs are minimal when you consider the replacement cost of carpets, so regular cleaning makes economic sense too.

Strata stairs and landings take quite a pounding and therefore they need to be cleaned at least ONCE a year. If the building is close to the beach or a Main road they should be cleaned every six months, to remove sand and the very fine road dusts that vacuum cleaners have trouble removing. If this sand and fine grit is allowed to build up it will cause premature wear, especially on the step edge. The whole process is rather simple and straightforward and normally will not normally disrupt residents. But it does require planning, checking for water taps, access etc. All which would be discussed on the day of the Quote and noted on the quote its self.

Some unit blocks do have narrow driveway access and may require the driveway to be blocked for a few hours, if this is the case I would normally put a note in each units letter box and in the stair entry a week before, advising the date and approximate time the driveway will be blocked and please move your vehicle out to the street before.

For stairs where the carpet is already worn on the edge but the landings and the rest of the step is in good condition, then stair treads can be fitted. The type of tread seen below can greatly increase the total life strata carpet.
